BACK INTO THE SWING OF THINGS

Back into the swing of things

I am pleased to report that I am now into the start of my 4th week back into full training load.  My recovery has passed quickly and I am currently a few weeks ahead of schedule. I am still being careful though to avoid any niggling problems, which could slow progress down.  I have been pleasantly surprised at how much fitness I have been able to maintain during my rehab - I think it was due to the long walks in the forest with my dogs. They are great training partners as they are always enthusiastic to go for  'WALKIES' in the forest!

 

I am gradually pushing myself harder in training in order to guage my current fitness and strength and this will then determine my race plan for the year. At this stage, I am planning to make Mooloolaba my first race back. It is a hard race and will be a shock to the body, but all I know is that on the start line I will be fit and mentally ready for the race.

I would like to thank my Surgeon Dr David Gilpin who did a fantastic job on bolting me back together. A big thank you also goes out to Chris Brady and Michael Davie on helping me with physiotherapy, strength and conditioning.

 

The support that I have received from everyone has been great and helped me to stay motivated during the inactive weeks.

The plate and the 11 screws will be taken out after a year and I will be left with a good scar as a reminder to avoid wildlife crossing the road!  I am looking forward to a hard year and feel that with this down time has helped me work out and address some weaknesses, which will result in me being stronger.
