CHRIS HEWITT EMERGING ATHLETE AWARD

Chris Hewitt Emerging Athlete Award

During the Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival, Triathlon Australia hosted its annual awards evening in order to recognise the performance of its athletes during the year.  There was a great turn out, and attendees included many world class athletes including 2-time World IM Champion (and general legend) Craig Alexander.  Not unexpectedly, Craig was awarded Athlete of the Year and Male Performance of the Year, with Emma Moffat taking the award for Female Performance of the Year.  The sport's leading juniors were also recognised, with upcoming stars Holly Aitken and Drew Viles leading the way.

I was awarded the "Chris Hewitt Emerging Athlete Award", having had the honour of being nominated along with Emma Jackson, who placed second at the ITU World Junior Championships held on the Gold Coast.  The award was presented in memory of Triathlon Australia's ex-President and Board Member Chris Hewitt, who tragically passed away in 2005. Many talented and amazing athletes have received this award in the past and to be recognised amongst those names is truly humbling.

I would like to say a big thank you to my coach Shaun Stephens, for always pushing and putting up with me over the many years.  To my parents, thank you for your ongoing and tireless support.  Thanks also to my supporters and sponsors, who believe in me and support me in my chosen profession.  Finally a big thank you to Triathlon Australia for your general support and for this award.
